Gaia’s Anemones…

A new painting for my “Floral Series” is ready!
If you’re a follower of my Blog you know that I have dedicated this month painting flowers honoring the beautiful Spring Season where everything in nature awakens. I am painting in “Loose Watercolor” style. This painting of the series is a little less “loose” because I wanted to add some more details. (Read below if you don’t know about this painting technique).
My new painting title is  “Gaia’s Anemones…” which is different from my previous two paintings Just A Rose… and Wildflowers… in this one I was inspired by the Greek Mythology and I wanted to include a face between the flowers, she represents “Gaia Mother Earth Goddess” the ancestral mother of all life found in the early Greek Mythology. I love the Anemone flowers especially the beautiful variety of colors.  Also the word Anemone comes from the Greek and means “the wind’s daughter”.  The combination of anemos, the word for wind, and the suffix -one, which indicates a female offspring or daughter. It gained this name because of myths involving the Greek gods of the four winds. The Anemone flowers also has several  interesting meanings given by different cultures. In the Western culture it symbolize “Protection”.  I like to dedicate this painting to my lovely Mother she loves Anemones I remember growing up she always had some in our house during Spring time ❤

I hope that you like my new painting and found the meanings and facts behind it interesting! Let me know I always love your comments!

What is Loose Watercolor?
I got this question a lot lately. And this is a quick explanation, “Loose Watercolor” it is a very inspiring way to paint but not easy to master. It seems effortless and quick but actually isn’t and needs confidence, the artist has to embrace a different approach and way to think from the start when attempting this technique.  Each artist has to find his own way and shift thinking to explore it. The quote “Less is more” is really true while painting this way, details and overwork is left out! And instead there is the careful placement of brushstrokes that are just like a magic guide for the colors to fill the water and blend with each other creating shapes in such a beautiful softness that make it perfect for painting flowers or amazing skies and any other subject.

❤ Details about my painting:
Loose watercolor technique. I used only 3 colors palette – French Artists Watercolors Sennelier  l’Aguarelle,  Pentel Aqua Brush – I painted on BeePaper watercolor paper 140lb, cold pressed,  size 6×9 inches.

New Painting – Just A Rose…

Just A Rose… – Watercolor Painting ©CarolinaRusso

JUST A ROSE…

Today my new painting is inspired by the Spring Season and beautiful roses.  This painting is different from my usual style, there is no ink outline work, I painted this rose in loose watercolor style. I love loose watercolor it is a very inspiring way to paint but not easy to master. I  loved to paint this rose, first I have skipped the pencil sketch and I had no reference of a real rose or a photo it is all out of my own imagination. I only had the white paper the pure emptiness without lines and without limitations. I loved seeing the colors taking their shapes while carefully and strategically placing my brushstrokes. The rose formed almost by itself in the water. I have used a limited palette of only three colors “Alizarin crimson red, Lemon yellow and Payne’s grey” painted over a cold pressed paper not smooth,  hand cut paper because I wanted the raw edges I think adds a lovely touch.

I hope you like it and if you paint in watercolor I hope that I have inspired you to explore and try this beautiful technique without fear! ❤
