Today is a very hot day here in California!

Yes, we are having an heat wave for this weekend. And with this temperatures isn’t too much fun to go hike!
I love to hike and I usually go several time a week but not today, so I decided that  my #NatureDoodlewash hike will be close to home.

My friend has a wonderful plant of  Hibiscus outside her backyard and I love the flowers especially the color  and shape. I decided to use them for my watercolor.

Hibiscus is better known as the flower symbol of Haiti,  but with the climate here the plant grows beautifully!

Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. It is quite large, containing several hundred species that are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are often noted for their showy flowers and are commonly known simply as hibiscus, or less widely known as rose mallow. The genus includes both annual and perennial herbaceous plants, as well as woody shrubs and small trees. The generic name is derived from the Greek word ἱβίσκος, which was the name Pedanius Dioscorides gave to Althaea officinalis. (Wikipedia)

  1. I must be closer to the ocean than you are. It was near perfect today in San Diego. I love your art work. The colors and lines are always so full of life and energy. They’re a joy to see!

    1. Thank you Sue it is so nice to read your comments! I am happy that you like it! Yes maybe you are more close to the ocean than me I am around 45 minutes away from Malibu “without traffic” 😉 having the ocean close make a huge difference!

  2. This so reminded me of my paternal grandmother Carolina. She’s been gone for over 10 years now but she loved her garden and had lots of hibiscus trees with white and red blooms. I just love your art but this especially brought a smile to my face today so thank you.

      1. I am away boating most weekends during the summer. No internet. I try to get caught up with all the blogs on Sundays but I have work to get caught up too. Just explaining my lulls in responding. 🙂
