Today post feature the release of my new watercolor-graphite painting having the title of “Mystical Multitude”. This is the finished piece of the work in progress that who is following me on Instagram @carolinarussoart already has seen this painting progressing through my latest posts. I am happy how it turned out and If you missed the stages, you can see here the pencil sketch where my inspiration and work begin, actually my starting sketch was the face in the center. This time I wanted to do something different and combine two mediums together and the use of different skills in one painting. I love graphite for the soft tone and shades of grey with the possibility to build up the color with more depth as needed. I felt that would’ve been beautiful combined with the transparency of watercolor using a delicate color palette.
This is the beginning of the watercolor layering stage. I truly enjoyed to create this painting for the variety of expressions in the beautiful faces and for the mixed media technique. I did work for several days on it, there are lots of details and the layering in between watercolors and graphite. The paper I used it is a large size pad it is 9 x 12 inches, approx. 22.9 x 30.5 centimeters.
“For this portrait I gave the title“Mystical Multitude” the meaning behind the painting is inspired by how our emotions are flowing together in our reality, how feelings can transport us in many directions and how much we emotionally change. This portrait shows three different faces of women, but in a mystical and dreamy way it represents one person, the same woman in different moments and emotional state of her life, going through, transformation and changes”.
I love the softness and transparency of the watercolors and I left it as pure watercolor without the ink outline that usually distinguish most of my paintings but using graphite and colored pencils for more definition.

Keep creating!
Today post feature the release of my new ink drawing, a portrait part of my Collection Series “ART FOR MUSIC” a series inspired by music artists reflecting my passion for music. In this series I create artworks using several media, traditional watercolor paintings, ink drawings, digital art, photo manipulation and any other media that will inspire my creations. At the same time this art series is a feature for the music artists here on my Blog.
This is the portrait of “Mad Madam Em” also known for her solo project Plike she is an American electronic music producer and composer, Em creates unique beautiful mysterious, haunting and dark music, she is also the sound designer music composer for the upcoming independent video game “Momo Ichigo” Em is also creating music for Independent Film. At the moment she is working on her fifth EP that would be released in July 2017. I can’t wait to listen what she is creating!
This is the photo of Em “Plike” that inspired my Portrait!
Em is also working on a collaboration with music composer Ewian Christensen, who follows me remember that I often featured Ewian music and recently I had a Blog post as my interview with him and mentioned their future collaboration.
This portrait is an ink drawing. I have made a pencil sketch first and worked over with the ink pens this is not like my usual watercolor painting it is all black ink. I love the minimalism and contrast of the black ink on the white paper with a touch of precious gold ink between the hair and filled in the background’s oval shape. I loved drawing this portrait while listening to Em music and I hope I was able to deliver the spirit and essence of Plike if you like to discover her music, you can visit her website where you find the links to her YouTube channel and Bandcamp.

The month of May is over in few days and so the #MerMay2017 challenge, I loved to participate and during the month I re-posted some of my mermaids I previously painted and I made this new mermaid painting.
I am sorry I haven’t post much lately, it was because I had to fix a problem with my computer, thankfully right now is all working and fixed! I haven’t been writing here on my Blog but I did post my work on Instagram and if you follow me there you know I have been pretty busy drawing and painting!
Today I am excited about my ” New Release” and to share with you my finished “Wander In The Abyss – Mermaid” a watercolor and ink painting. If you came across my previous post you remember this mermaid and that I was showing my work in progress, from the pencil sketch to the begin stage of watercolor, if you missed that post, maybe you like to read it and see how this painting come alive. This watercolor mermaid had a pretty long process, lots of patience and layers for me to be able to obtain this look and all the shades of colors on a “not watercolor paper” like the gray toned paper sketchbook that I used. This time, I really wanted to try something different using a toned paper for background and I wanted to see how I could use watercolors and inks on a paper for dry media. I can say that It’s pretty tricky! I am happy with the way the painting turned out!
A Limited Edition of 20 Art Prints is now available only hand embellished
I will add by hand the gold ink to embellish each print and turn it in one of a kind and special. It is very difficult to print the gold ink from an original painting because the scanner and printer aren’t able to give the real gold pigments and spark, that’s why I decided to do only a very small run of special prints hand embellished. When the 20 prints are sold out I won’t print them again and with time they will increase in value! Prints are size 8×10 inches, I offer a special discounted price for my friends and for anyone that place an order here on the Blog Price is $45 + $8 Shipping via USPS Priority Mail within US if you like to reserve a print just fill in the form linked.
Details about my painting: I Sketched on a Strathmore 400 Series medium surface 80 lb – gray toned paper large sketchbook size 9 x 12 inches for dry media. I used a Draft/Matic Pencil 0.5mm by Mab Graves Limited Edition for ALVIN for my sketch and I used French Artists Watercolors Sennelier l’Aguarelle and Artist’s Loft watercolor pan set I used this set for a opaque- chalk effect. Ink pen COPIC Multiliner #0.03 and a SAKURA Metallic gold Gelly Roll pen.
