How all this happened?
Well this month I was thinking about the coming soon challenge brainstorming what I would like to do and experiment this year for my series. I thought that right now was the right time to create a tangible product out of one of my favorite Inktober drawings. From a long time I had the idea of a “Collectible Sticker” which is a fun and nice way to share my art. Stickers have been always very popular and still now more than ever.
Day #13 InkTober 2017 Challenges Official Prompts: > MabsDrawlloweenClub: Frankenstein
> Inktober: Teemed
My original watercolor ink painting was inspired by the Bride of Frankenstein! Created in 2017 following the official combined challenges prompts. I painted this in my inspired Blythe doll style! Creepy but cute she is holding a bowl full of hearts (for the prompt Teemed) ♥️ with a black Crow posing over a cracked… back side skull? I guess…💀 not sure what it was a skull or a sphere! Halloween theme for this one!
Limited and Open Edition Prints of this painting are also available now in my >> Etsy Shop
Inktober 2017 Day #13: Frankenstein – Teemed
<3 Details about my original painting: My Ink drawing is outlined with ink pens. Pentel Pocket Brush black ink. Ink pens used COPIC Multiliner Black ink #03 and 05, Micron dark red ink #1. A Alvin Draft/Matic #03 Limited Edition Pink Mab Graves Pencil. A dash of watercolor, I used French Artists Watercolors Sennelier l’Aguarelle, Pentel Aqua Brush – I painted on Bee Paper for watercolor 140lb, 100% cotton, cold pressed, size 6×9 inches .
My post today is the official release of my new painting dedicated to historic Surrealist artist “Frida Kahlo” the month of July celebrate the anniversaries of her Birthday and end of her life, (6 July 1907 – 13 July 1954) she was a Mexican painter recognized as one of the most revolutionary Latin American artist, best known for her bright color paintings and especially for her self-portraits. She made many portraits telling her own life story dramatically painted. Her paintings were inspired by her culture using symbolism and mythology in her surrealistic style inspired by the nature and artifacts of her native country Mexico. She is also one of the most painted artist around the world, I have seen tribute paintings of her in any creative style and medium. Artists worldwide love to recreate her bold character identified by her eyebrows recon as unibrow iconic shape. This is my second painting dedicated to her. I made my first one two years ago in July 2017 it was a half figure of her inspired by some of her own famous paintings you can see my painting here.
This July 2019 I painted a tribute portrait in my style watercolor and ink which portrays her face with the typical braided hair up do ornate by colorful rose flowers, she wore flowers in her hair most of the time and that’s how she appear in most of the existing photos throughout her life. I am happy overall with this painting especially with the expression I was able to capture in her eyes.
The Moth I painted with black ink and gold is just symbolic in a good way. I love moths and I just thought it will complete this tribute portrait to Frida as you see the Moth has a cross on her chest as symbol of “Faith” and two heart shape in her wings they symbolize “Love” the gold means “Light”. There isn’t any superstitious or dark meanings behind my moth. Moths are “Nocturnal Spirit Animal” they are attracted to light and their meaning resonates with truth, faith and determination you can see a little video I took of this painting to show the shiny gold and I posted on my Instagram!
Sadly Frida Kahlo discovered the art of painting while in bed severely injured from a terrible accident. To take her mind away from the pain and to find a way to pass time she discovered her art and started paint self-portraits one of her famous quotes says: “I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best” there are many of her own quotes which her words clearly describe her character like this one “Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?” Or “I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality” and how she describe herself “I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy to be alive as long as I can paint” – Frida Khalo
Details about my watercolor painting: My watercolors is outlined with black and white ink pens. I used French Artists Watercolors Sennelier l’Aguarelle, Ink pens used COPIC Multiliner Black ink #03. A Alvin Draft/Matic pencil #03. Pentel Aqua Brush – I painted on Bee Paper for watercolor 140lb, 100% cotton, cold pressed, size 6×9 inches. Enhanced with gold ink.

This is the issue number VI! Razur Cuts is a magazine that carries underground and punk style inspired feelings, it is a new version of what could be a traditional “Zine” publication but even more as a real magazine and it looks beautiful! I really appreciate Derek and all his effort doing this it’s precious for an independent artist like me. I came across Derek months ago, we connected and he discovered my Art inviting me to this collaboration and to create the Magazine Front Cover for this issue #VI. I loved the opportunity and here we are today. I feel so honored and proud to be part of such a wonderful project as Razur Cuts contributor and to be one of the Artists invited to create the Cover for this issue!
My artwork is the Punk red hair girl and the razor with the name razur cuts spelled backwards. I loved to create this watercolor and ink painting as it represents greatly the street style which is what the magazine is about. I am happy that with my contribution I help to make this Zine publication shine to the world and through my art bring it to USA!
♥️ Thank you so much to the Editor Derek Steel and to all the other contributors that made this possible!
