Plumeria Flowers from my photo to a watercolor painting challenge!
A couple of weeks ago I made a post with my photo of this beautiful Plumeria Flower and I decided to use it for a watercolor painting challenge open to anyone that paint watercolors and especially to my friends Artists Bloggers from our #worldwatercolorgroup well yesterday June 30 this challenge ended! I had a nice response from two lovely ladies Miriam and Carol inspired by my photo and challenge they painted their version of my Plumeria photo. I previously posted my painting and today I am going to post all the paintings, to honor Miriam and Carol beautiful work!
My friend Miriam from the Blog The Shower Of Blessings has been the first one to made her painting and shared with me earlier in the week, here there is her lovely painting.
And yesterday I was so happy to receive via Instagram the paintings of dear friend Carol from the Blog Carol’s Creative Papers sheDM mecause had no time to make a blog post. Carol made two renditions of this painting she prefer more the colors in the first one. I like both!
Thank you so much Miriam and Carol for participating to this challenge with me. You both did great job on these paintings and I am humbled that you were inspired and motivated by my photo. I am planning to made more Art Challenges in the near future but after the busy World Watercolor Month that is taking place now!

View of Italy – Oil Painting by Artist @Edoardo Russo
Happy Father’s Day!❤️
Today post is about one of the many beautiful oil paintings created by my Dad, the number one Artist in my life. I grow up exposed to his beautiful art and creativity and I am so thankful for it! Today here in USA is Father’s Day but not in Italy where my Dad and Mom are still living! ❤️ I wanted to share this small oval painting that I have here with me part of a series of Italian landscape views. I love to share this as a testimony of his art and honored him today! His painting style range from small sizes like this one to large canvas. My dad started painting at very early age on his own he was a child and at 11 years old he was already painting beautifully like an adult experienced oil painter artist. Through his life he painted beautiful floral compositions, landscapes, seascapes amazing view of the world and of Italy, nonetheless he explored many different art styles, from Impressionism to Surrealism and Modern, Sacred his variety took him creating with an open mind on creativity, the techniques, the color palette used in any painting he made are beautiful! Prize winner on several Group Exhibits in Italy during late 70s – 80s his paintings also were sold by galleries and imported around Europe and from what I remember here in US. Right now he loves to see what I am creating, he still painting not much like years ago, but his mind would be always creative and artistic. Thank you for your art Papa’! ❤
Plumeria Flowers are in Blossom outside my window!
Aren’t they beautiful? There is noting better than to see the Nature in all her beauty! As a photography lover and amateur I couldn’t miss to take this photo. I actually took more than one photo and shared them on my Instagram @carolinarussoart. My Artist side make me feel that this would be a perfect inspiration and photo reference for a watercolor painting…I will keep it in my long list of painting projects and maybe one day you will see this as painting! But I actually have an idea!
❤ A Watercolor Challenge!
If any of my friends Artists Bloggers from our #worldwatercolorgroup would be inspired to make a painting out of this photo, please you’re welcome to do so, just let me know, post your painting on your Blog and share it with me with a link. I would love that! Actually I guess it would be great to make a Challenge out of this for us. Let me know if you all are interested to paint this beautiful Plumeria flowers! I will then participate too! It would be beautiful to see this in all the different watercolor styles and techniques! We have time from now until June 30!
❤ Sorry that I haven’t posted much lately! I have been busy with some commissions and life events came on my way, with it also some sadness because the recent loss of my loved bunny pet Grey. I am trying to get back on my routine! I also like to thank all my recent new followers thank you very much for deciding to follow my Blog!
Have a wonderful rest of the week let me know what do you think about this Challenge!
The month of May is over in few days and so the #MerMay2017 challenge, I loved to participate and during the month I re-posted some of my mermaids I previously painted and I made this new mermaid painting.
I am sorry I haven’t post much lately, it was because I had to fix a problem with my computer, thankfully right now is all working and fixed! I haven’t been writing here on my Blog but I did post my work on Instagram and if you follow me there you know I have been pretty busy drawing and painting!
Today I am excited about my ” New Release” and to share with you my finished “Wander In The Abyss – Mermaid” a watercolor and ink painting. If you came across my previous post you remember this mermaid and that I was showing my work in progress, from the pencil sketch to the begin stage of watercolor, if you missed that post, maybe you like to read it and see how this painting come alive. This watercolor mermaid had a pretty long process, lots of patience and layers for me to be able to obtain this look and all the shades of colors on a “not watercolor paper” like the gray toned paper sketchbook that I used. This time, I really wanted to try something different using a toned paper for background and I wanted to see how I could use watercolors and inks on a paper for dry media. I can say that It’s pretty tricky! I am happy with the way the painting turned out!
A Limited Edition of 20 Art Prints is now available only hand embellished
I will add by hand the gold ink to embellish each print and turn it in one of a kind and special. It is very difficult to print the gold ink from an original painting because the scanner and printer aren’t able to give the real gold pigments and spark, that’s why I decided to do only a very small run of special prints hand embellished. When the 20 prints are sold out I won’t print them again and with time they will increase in value! Prints are size 8×10 inches, I offer a special discounted price for my friends and for anyone that place an order here on the Blog Price is $45 + $8 Shipping via USPS Priority Mail within US if you like to reserve a print just fill in the form linked.
Details about my painting: I Sketched on a Strathmore 400 Series medium surface 80 lb – gray toned paper large sketchbook size 9 x 12 inches for dry media. I used a Draft/Matic Pencil 0.5mm by Mab Graves Limited Edition for ALVIN for my sketch and I used French Artists Watercolors Sennelier l’Aguarelle and Artist’s Loft watercolor pan set I used this set for a opaque- chalk effect. Ink pen COPIC Multiliner #0.03 and a SAKURA Metallic gold Gelly Roll pen.

Time after time I like to look back at my old watercolor paintings. I like to see how much my art change and my skills grow during the years! Recently I came across this painting that I made in 2013 around this time of the year. It is almost four years ago and I like to re-share it with you all. This painting is very dear to me because is a view of “Venice” Venezia in Italian, it is one beautiful city in Italy, my native country! It is a view of Venice that I just painted out of my visual memory without any photo reference. It is a loose watercolor, I remember I was practicing the loose technique so hard to master! I know there is a lot that I could’ve done better, it was a fast painting and somehow, I am pleased with how this painting turned out! I think I was able to capture the feeling and essence of Venice. If you have been to Venice then maybe you recognize this view. I wasn’t born in Venice it’s not my hometown. I was born in Naples another beautiful city on the sea. That’s why I love the ocean so much and I love to paint water, there is something about water that it is so inspiring to me in many ways, artistically and not. I like the reflections and the colors. I often base my palette on the beautiful range of colors of the sea. The sea and the ocean are very often captured also in my photography!
Details about Watercolor: I used French Artists Watercolors Sennelier l’Aguarelle and I painted on a Canson watercolor paper 140 lb cold press.

– May new watercolor month challenge : MerMay2017!
This month of May I have several creative projects going on and one of them is that I am participating whenever possible to the #mermay2017 Challenge. I came across this inspiring challenge following artists friends on Instagram! As you know I love mermaids they are fascinating ,and I have painted several which I have reposted for the first few days of this challenge! Today I am sharing my latest and new Mermaid drawing isn’t finish and still a work in progress. I am already working on stage two “Watercolor”. I am also sharing the pencil sketch that I begin with. This time I decided to do something different and use “Gray Toned Paper” I love toned paper you can create beautiful effects with it! I especially love the white and black ink effect on toned tan and gray paper, but I also like to experiment and I wanted to see how my watercolor style works with this paper. Toned paper is not made for watercolor is a paper for dry media, but it’s not a super thin paper and if you use watercolors you have to find the right balance between color and water, painting more dry than wet. I like it so far and looking forward to see this piece how turn out when I am done! ❤
***A note: excuse if the photos quality in this post isn’t as my usual. I am dealing with a problem on my computer that is annoying me a lot and at the moment I am using a backup computer! Windows 10 decided to reboot and stay in Safe Mode and lock me out of my desktop :-((( without option to get to login, is crazy and I am trying to figure out what to do to get off the safe mode, I read that many Windows 10 users had this problem if any of you ever experienced this and solved the problem, please let me know! Hope to get back to normal soon!
Waiting for Mermaids….<3 while working on my new watercolor mermaid, I keep nurture the inspiration looking at this photo I took a month ago in beautiful Malibu. I love to share it with you and maybe inspire you a little…
