National Pigs In A Blanket Day

Today for April month celebrations is National Pigs in a Blanket Day!

This morning when I was looking at the National Days Calendar, finding my inspiration for my watercolor to do, I find out that the celebration was about pigs in a blanket, and my mind started to think about the cute and sweet pink little baby pigs, you know…the ones that you want to cuddle and hold in your arms. Also a lovely kids story came to my mind the famous “Charlotte’s Web” which I love!

But soon I realized that the celebration is about “Food” that pigs in a blanket are referred to different dishes that are celebrated Internationally.
Here in United States this dish is known from the 50s and is made with hot dogs or sausages wrapped with croissant or biscuit dough and baked in oven, they can be an anytime snack or eaten for breakfast or as appetizer and very often are served at kids parties because they are very easy to eat and tasty.

I felt that all my nice inspiration went away and I thought, I am not going to watercolor today! I will pass this day.

The image in my mind was totally different believe me, if you ever did see or had the opportunity to hold one of these cute baby pig, you will never want think to eat a pigs in a blanket and other products again also because the way that are produced. I personally don’t eat them, and please forgive me if you eat them I am not here to offend anyone!

After thinking about it, I changed my mind and decided that the beautiful part of being an artist is to let your creativity be “Free” and I decided to go on and watercolor my ideal of “Pig In A Blanket”

Happy Earth Day!!!

Today I am celebrating this day thinking about how important it is to preserve our Earth, respect the Nature and environment.

I painted these flowers with pure colors from Nature without using the classic watercolor pans.

I wrote a post explaining all the interesting details about my experiment painting with Nature and I will link it here for you to read  “Watercolors from Nature”

National Earth Day is observed each year on April 22.

National Earth Day is held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Every year around the world, Earth Day organizers promote green campaigns to save the Earth.

Details about my doodlewash:
I painted with colors that I experimented using straight from Nature. The yellow is Turmeric powder mixed with water, the Pink is juice from the Dragon fruit straight from the fruit and Pigma Micron black Ink pen #005 and #05 over a watercolor paper pad cold press 140 lb by Strathmore.

Save The Elephant Day

Save The Elephant Day!

Today my April Celebration and doodlewash is dedicated to a wonderful, intelligent and very sensible animal that I love the Elephant!

They are beautiful wildlife creatures, and they need all of our support to keep them safe and secure in their habitat on this planet. It is very sad that beautiful and fascinating creatures like them are under life threats in some areas, I have seen online horrific photos.

Today is Save The Elephant Day  let’s make this not just one day but every day, we can show our love and support spreading the words, visiting websites dedicated to animal protection, we can do anything that we feel, can help to raise awareness in protection of their days to come!  As  I am also a Jewelry Designer I made a choice long ago and it is to never ever use “Ivory” elements in any of my creations.

My watercolor shows an elephant that is worried about his future, but that is there ready to run free and happy any day of the year without worries.

April Celebration National and International Days!

Today  is dedicated to “Draw a Picture of a Bird Day!”

In honor and inspiration of this Day I decided to Doodlewash a California Bird specifically one that I enjoy to see often from my window and it is a very cute little yellowish-green bird with sometimes a visible orange color crown on the top head, the name of this bird is the Orange-Crowned Warbler

I enjoyed to celebrate this Day and drawing this lovely bird very much! ❤

About April Draw a Picture of a Bird a Day Origin and how it all started:

Origin 1943 United Kingdom – Dorie Cooper

In 1943, Dorie Cooper’s mother took her to a hospital in to visit her uncle who was wounded in World War 2. While there, Dorie attempted to cheer her uncle by asking him to “Draw a bird for me, please.”After seeing her uncle’s bird picture, Dorie laughed out loud and proclaimed that he was not a very good artist, but that she would hang the picture in her room nonetheless. The complete honesty and acceptance of his niece did much to lighted her uncle’s spirit. Other soldiers at the hospital also had their day brightened by the event and so, every time Dorie came to visit, they held drawing contests to see who could produce the best bird pictures.
Sadly, just three years later, young Dorie was killed in a car accident. At her funeral, her coffin was filled with bird images that had been made by soldiers, nurses, and doctors from the ward where her uncle had been. The people who little Dorie had touched decided that the little girl who brought hope to the ward by drawing birds would be forevermore remembered on her birthday, April 8th.

Draw a Bird Day is not a recognized official holiday but it is one of the most heartfelt holidays of the year, honoring the soul of a beautiful and innocent, little girl.

To celebrate Dorie’s birthday, be inspired to draw a bird of any kind and share it! ❤

April Celebration! #FindaRainbowDay

Double Rainbow

Double Rainbow
Double Rainbow

The Month of April is filled with interesting National and International Celebrating Days!

I am participating to the “Celebration” choosing some of the days that are inspiring to me and post some of my work like my own photos, watercolors, sketches, poetry. I got inspired to do this from my dear Doodlewasher friend Charlie O’Shields at Doodlewash I will join him some days during this month with my watercolors and tag my image #doodlewashaday  if anyone that love doodlewash wants to join please visit his post here  it would be fun!

Today is April 3rd and is “Find a Rainbow Day”

I am celebrating this special National Day with my Photography posting two lovely photos of double rainbows that I was lucky enough to be at the right time at the right spot when the beautiful rainbows appeared in the sky. The first photo was taken in 2013 I like how clear the colors of the main rainbow are sadly the second rainbow is very light to see in both photos but is there.

The second photo was taken on November 2nd 2015 is a photo very dear to me because this beautiful double rainbow appeared about 30 minutes after my dog Mojo died exactly 5 months ago yesterday! That day I felt like the rainbow was a sign from above from Mojo saying that she was happy.  I wanted to capture that moment and I took the photo with my phone.

April is also Poetry Month  and the 17th is National Hiku Poetry Day let’s get inspired and celebrate!

The following two sites are great resources for the “official” days that people are celebrating somewhere in the world: National Day Calendar and Days of the Year. If you like to celebrate in the way that best inspire you just choose a date National or International and let your creativity flow! 😉

Have a wonderful and colorful National Rainbow Day!
