#DoodlewashDinner at the Beach

Seashore - Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo
Seashore – Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo

Today to join Charlie for our “Doodlewash Dinner” I decided to bring the idea of the place where we will have our dinner! 😉
And I bring the beach to you! A dinner with a front view of the blue ocean…isn’t it great?

Sorry no food from me today. I was thinking what to paint and since my time today is not much I decided that was a good idea to include the idea of a place and what is better than an ocean view. What do you think?

I like to share this watercolor painting a seascape that I made some time ago. I have the original here framed on the wall. I kept this one for myself and it is just in front of me on my desk! I love to look at it every day when I am seat at my computer. I purposely placed it there a bit high than my 24″ screen, because I feel that is a relaxing view to rest my eyes on it, the color palette is very delicate I feel peace when I look at it. I wanted to have an imaginary  open window on the ocean inside the room.

I also wanted one of my painting to be the inspirational motivator for my daily artworks and doodlewashes  or inspirer for other watercolor paintings it is a constant reminder to be creative and enjoy what I do. It is actually a great idea to try, surround yourself from your beautiful creations or choose a single one to focus on it, enjoy them every day and let them inspire you for more. ❤

Details about my doodlewash:
I used a basic watercolor palette Artist’s Loft Fundamental watercolor pan set  this pan set is considered for beginners but I enjoy use it for the variety of colors. The paper used is a Watercolor Cold Press  pad 140 lb size 11 x 15 inches.

With this I am  joining  Charlie at doodlewash  for a #DoodlewashDinner You are welcome to join with your doodlewash!

DP Weekly Photo Challenge – FACE – Portrait #3 Silver Wave

When Nature Meet Humans - Portrait #3 Silver Wave
When Nature Meet Humans – Portrait #3 Silver Wave

“WHEN NATURE MEETS HUMANS” Digital Portraits Collection
– Portrait #3 – Silver Wave –

This post also is my participation of the Weekly Daily Post Photo Challenge – FACE –

Today is time for another digital creation that I want to share with you, it’s a Portrait added to this Concept-Collection. This is Portrait #3 Silver Wave.
This is  a black and white portrait created with black and white photos only for a monochrome effect, focusing on lighting and transparency. While editing and creating this portrait I was able to archive a magical golden lighting effect giving beautiful shades,  it is lovely how it turned out I am very pleased and happy with it. This was a great experiment to work on.

I like to continually evolve with my Art and creativity which I love to express with different mediums. From years I love to work in Digital finding new ways of visualize and learn while experimenting. I like to work with photos, manipulating images of any kind. I often post my Digital Art .  I made a new gallery for the  “When Nature Meets Humans Portraits Collection” you can see and read all about this great concept  here. When I am not working on my Jewelry Designs, and when I am not holding a pencil or a brush watercolor painting or sketching, I love to go Digital is an extension of my art which I love to work with very much and in this case Photoshop is my creative ally. I am using Photoshop from about 15 years, for me there are not other software to really compare with, I am so amazed all the time of what I am able to create with it that motivate and inspire me to create and experiment more and more.

I am very excited and inspired to keep working on this concept created as an experimental and evolving Collection of Artistic and one of a kind Digital Portraits this is also part of my personal creative and artistic growth and evolution. Thanks to all of you for leaving me your feedbacks and comments let me know what you think. I really appreciate all the encouragements and insights. This portrait it is the #3 of this Digital Art Collection, so far by now I created six  portraits.

The story for this one starts with the title I gave  “Silver Wave” because the reflection of the water combined with the light and the grays and white tones. I also feel that the portrait emits messages of peace and calm feelings and strength at the same time, it represent the image of a strong woman who is illuminated by rays of kindness and love with a sense of inner peace, purity and happiness.

To create this portrait I used only two beautiful and amazing photos found over internet source Pinterest  note that the images used are not my own Photography (I apologize but haven’t found any names of the photographers to give Credits for their ©Copyrights).

I came up with this idea to mix nature with humans and create a unique and very different kind of portraits…let’s say very unusual portraits that tell a story, each one I created has their own story and meanings, they are filled with all my experience, art and soul into it.

If you’re interested in purchase a custom and unique portrait like this one using your own personal photos, I can create your personal and unique story with a custom Digital Art Portrait, for more info and details please contact me.

As always thank you I love to know your opinion and I appreciate your feedback!

Jewelry Designs Meanings and Friendship…

- Malibu - Photo ©Carolina Russo

Lack of time today I am going  to share this older post about my jewelry designs. I wrote this post last November when I was lucky to meet in person some amazing Bloggers friends! ❤

– Point Dume –

Point Dume is a promontory on the coast of Malibu, California that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The point, a long bluff, forms the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay. Wikipedia

I designed this necklace for my friend blogger and published author  Erika Kind as token of our friendship. If you followed our recent posts you know that we met (read my post) in person last November here in California it was a great experience. Each piece of Jewelry I design has a story behind it. This one symbolize the beginning of our friendship relate to one of our first conversations that we had when we met, and it was about how much Erika love California, the Ocean and the Beach she said that she love “Point Dume” which happen to be a wonderful place in Malibu where I go often and I love to take beautiful photos like this one of the beach where Point Dume promontory is. This is one of the places where I find precious natural elements like fragments of fossil seashells, stones, driftwood all elements gifted from nature that I treasure and collect for my unique jewelry designs.

Fossil Seashelles Fragments, Driftwood
Fossil seashells Fragments, Driftwood

The necklace created for Erika has all the elements to symbolize what she love, it represent the Ocean with the natural beauty of a fragment of a Fossil Seashell,  a Pearl and her favorite Turquoise stone, the blue color of the stone symbolize the sky and the ocean  water,  all the elements are wired together creating a keepsake memories pendant with an adjustable leather cord. This is an example of the concept I work with, to create one of a kind Jewelry. I am very happy that Erika love the necklace very much at the point that when I gave to her she got emotional, that was my greatest gift to see the reaction she had it means I made it through her heart giving her happiness and joy…this is one of the reason why I love my work!

#DoodlewashDinner – National Shrimp Day!

Shrimp - Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo
Shrimp – Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo

Today I found out that is National Shrimp Day which is perfect for our Doodlewash Dinner!

Shrimps are delicious and a great source of Omega3 they are consumed worldwide and there are numerous dishes and recipes to choose from paired with some nice white wine. I was born on a city on the Mediterranean Sea in Italy “Naples”  which is very close to the famous Capri Island and to the well-known Amalfi Coast where there are amazing places to go to eat fresh and great seafood which is a favorite to many!

Think about a great Shrimp Saute or a fresh Shrimp Cocktail, or more a great quick Shrimp linguini and so on… I know we’re getting hungry here! 😉
For my watercolor today I painted a single beautiful Shrimp I couldn’t choose any dish… so I wanted to paint the beauty of the shrimp itself which is a lovely sea creature!

Today is National Crepe Suzette Day!

I enjoyed to watercolor this delicious French Dessert I had no much time so I made it very fast and post it very late since I wasn’t home! I love Crepes they can be made sweet or salty  and this day brings up my memories of travelling to France years ago when I was still in Italy I had the opportunity to travel and visit beautiful places in Europe. I have been to France twice and both times was wonderful. I remember when In one of the two trip I visited the French Atlantic Coast going to Bretagne and Normandy I visited lovely places on the coast and I ate lots of Crepes, they were so delicious and often made just in front of me. I loved all the sweet ones, but I also loved the seafood ones! I had great time there!  I hope that for today you enjoy my watercolor ones! 😉

Crêpe Suzette is a French dessert consisting of a crêpe with beurre Suzette, a sauce of caramelized sugar and butter, tangerine or orange juice, zest, and Grand Marnier or orange Curaçao liqueur on top, served flambé.

Anyway will be good for #doodlewashaday

Friends and Sennelier…
I wanted to use my new French Sennelier Watercolor! So I needed to create something!

I love and enjoy Illustration, and sometimes I like drawing cute  whimsical characters a little bit out of my ordinary watercolor paintings and sketches. Creativity it is something that there are no words to describe it! Inspiration can come to me  from anything and anytime, everywhere, and often start with something to ends with something totally different from what was at first inside my mind, it is a very fascinating and abstract process, that’s how I call it!

While I was thinking what to begin with to start my drawing, the word “Friends” came up to my mind I don’t know why, at the same time I was on my Pinterest (Follow me) pinning things for my numerous boards.  I came across some very cute little dolls. I was captured by their sweet, nice faces with big eyes and instantly I felt the wish to draw them. I quickly made my sketch, when the word “Friends” came back to mind again and that was it!!! It was perfect for my new illustration. I am going to dedicate this drawing to all the amazing Bloggers Friends and Artists I found here on WP community. 🙂

Some technical details
I quickly sketched first with a pencil #2 HB few light lines just to give me an idea to the two figures and the flower then I painted. For this Illustration I was very excited to use my new French Sennelier watercolors. I use many different brands of watercolors I love  Sennelier their watercolors are beautiful so vibrant, very pigmented, they are rich, luminous and honey-based. I purchased this metal travel box on Amazon it is small and easy to carry almost the size of an iPhone it can fit anywhere.

Sennelier Watercolors Travel Box
Sennelier – L’Aguarelle French Artist Watercolors

This Watercolor set is inspired by the bright and lively palette of Southern France. Each set contains 12 half pans of top quality French Artists Watercolor and two built-in palettes within a compact and sturdy metal case. Reformulated with an increased honey content gives each watercolor incomparable brilliance and luminosity while acting as a preservative to extend the paints longevity.
I love the fluidity of the colors a little goes a long way. I am very happy how my illustration turned out. I gave the finish touch going over with a black ink Pigma Micron pen 0.3 to finish and add shades. I painted this with a very light wash not on a watercolor paper but on a mix media ProArt Sketchbook size 9×11 inches.

The month of May hold a new sketching and watercolor adventure the theme that Charlie choose is “Food” so  you will see from me lots of delicious food illustrations!

Today according to this List is National Chocolate Mousse Day!
I choose to watercolor a traditional French Chocolate Mousse and I am giving to  my own w a mint twist flavor! ❤

Chocolate Mint Mousse - Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo
Chocolate Mint Mousse – Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo

The word mousse in French means foam, and chocolate is for chocolate.  Mousse au chocolate  translates as foamy chocolate.

With a few rare exceptions, all chocolate mousse recipes have two ingredients:  dark Chocolate is the essential element of the dessert, and egg white, whipped into a foam and added to the melted chocolate to provide the light and foamy texture essence of the recipe.

This is the traditional mousse, additional ingredients can be added to change the taste and texture of the dessert, if you search you can find many recipes.

National Peace Rose

Peace Rose – Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo

Today for April Celebration is National Peace Rose Day!

I know it is a bit late today I had a little time and I made my Peace Rose to honor this beautiful National Day.
I love roses, all of them, and I enjoyed to watercolor this symbolic one, for the beautiful colors and interesting history facts behind it.

Peace Rose - Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo
Peace Rose – Original Watercolor ©Carolina Russo

History
Each year on April 29th we recognize National Peace Rose Day.   The day is set aside to honor the “Peace” rose, a well-known and fruitful garden rose.

The light yellow to large cream-colored flowers of the Peace rose have slightly flushed crimson pink petal edges.  It is a hybrid tea rose that is hardy, vigorous and highly resistant to disease.

French horticulturist Francis Meilland, developed the Peace rose between 1935 and 1939.  When Meilland foresaw the German invasion of France, to protect the new rose, he sent cutting to his friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany and the United States. It is believed these cuttings were sent to the United States on the last plane available before the German invasion.

The rose received different names in each country it was sent.  In France, it was called “Madame A. Meilland” in honor of the breeder’s mother.  In Italy, it was called Gioia, meaning Joy.  In Germany, the name of the rose was Gloria Dei, for glory to God. In the United States, the rose was named Peace.

As the Second World War was coming to a close in Europe, the trade name “Peace” was publicly announced on April 29, 1945, the name it was given in the United States.

Later in 1945, Peace roses were given to each delegate at the inaugural meeting of the United Nations, in San Francisco, with a note that read:  “We hope the Peace rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting world peace.”  (source NationalCalendar)
